Huntington Dog Beach: Let Fido run free
If you’ve ever wondered how your pooch would act off his leash with full access to sand and surf, bring him over to the Huntington Dog Beach and let him try out his sea legs.
This large pet-loving beach has plenty of room for tons of dogs and owners. Dog owners love this Dog Beach, and they respect its cleanliness by picking up after their pets. If you forgot bags for your pup, Huntington Dog Beach will have some for you to use. Just dispose of your pet’s waste in the designated areas, and spend the rest of your time playing fetch with Rover. It’s normal to see owners make friends at the beach while the doggies get to know each other. Bring a tennis ball or toy and watch your dog dig holes in the California sand.
Before you come, make sure your doggie behaves off his leash. You wouldn’t want to disturb other pets and people with an unruly puppy. To join the Dog Beach, you’ll be asked to donate at least $15 to the park, and your membership will last for a year. Parking can be difficult, especially on weekends, so if you can come during the week you might have an easier time finding a space.
Make sure not to let your pup wander beyond the “No Dogs Past this Point” sign at the Seapoint end of the beach. If you let your pup get beyond the sign, you could be subjected to a fine of up to $300, and that’s no day at the beach!
Buy some Huntington Dog Beach merchandise and support the non-profit park. They’ve got fun hats, short and long-sleeved t-shirts, sweatshirts, tank tops, doggie bags, doggie clothes and beach towels for dog-lovers to sport. You can also volunteer your time at the park and help the dog beach continue to prosper.
HelloMetro Tip: There is talk of a Dog Beach coming to Santa Monica. If the bill passes, there may be a leash-free dog-friendly beach at Playa del Rey’s Dockweiler State Beach. Keep your ears and eyes open!
