About Huntington Beach, California

Featured Sites

Huntington Beach is a city of almost 200,000 residents, located in Orange County, California. It is perhaps best-known for its 8.5 mile-long beach and excellent surfing. Because of the city's land-use policies, Huntington Beach has more park area per person than any other city in the United States.

Top "Surf City" attractions center on the seaside. Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve, where almost half the birds found in the United States have been seen at some time, abuts the popular Bolsa Chica State Beach, a good spot for surf fishing or for bare-handed catching California grunion, a species that spawns only on southern California beaches. In summer, beachside bonfires are popular, especially along the state beach.

The International Surfing Museum celebrates the sport in the city mentioned in the lyrics of the Beach Boys' song "Surfin' Safari," and the most proficient local surfers congregate near the Huntington Beach Pier to practice it. A surfing competition is held here annually.

Every December, residents along Huntington Beach waterways put on a holiday light display of Hollywood proportions, and everyone else in the area turns out in boats to see it. Public boat tours benefiting local music programs let even landlubbers get a look.

Japanese-style Tuna Town is one of the city's trendiest restaurants. The Hilton's Palm Court serves contemporary cuisine on an ocean-view patio, and is popular for Sunday brunch. Duke's, at the foot of the Huntington Beach Pier is a popular surfer's hangout, serving Hawaiian-inspired cuisine. Other local favorites include Chimayo at the Beach and posh, pan-Asian Red Pearl.

Top-Rated Hotels include the Hyatt Regency, Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort and Hotel Huntington Beach. Moderately-priced options include the Best Western's Regency and Huntington Beach Inns, and Extended Stay America.
